expert guidance, resources & analysis

workplace equity & diversity consulting firm
HigherEdInclusion is a consultancy specializing in workplace equity and diversity, with a focus on promoting inclusive excellence in higher education. As colleges and universities strive to create environments where all community members feel a sense of belonging, HigherEdInclusion offers expert guidance, resources, and analysis to help develop inclusive campuses.

Our work is guided by a commitment to promoting diversity without dominance, equity without benevolence, inclusion without othering, and belonging without assimilation, while deepening our understanding and practice of cultural humility, cultural wealth and cultural pluralism.
Founder and principal consultant, Dr. John Johnson, serves as the senior inclusion administrator for a private college in the Pacific Northwest region. His engagement with higher education dates back to 1992 when he first set foot on the campus of Temple University as an undergraduate student. From there, he would go on to obtain multiple academic credentials and build a career in higher education that includes staff support roles, tenure-track faculty experience, multiple years in student service and executive-level administration.

Our Work
We believe that if an organization aspires to be excellent, it must be diverse. To be diverse, an institution must be excellent at inclusion. This means that the specialized knowledge contained in specific campus offices dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and justice must be distributed across the institution and integrated into every aspect of the college or university’s operations. This proven approach to advancing inclusive excellence has yielded improved outcomes in terms of compositional diversity (student enrollment, faculty and staff recruitment), but can also lead to meaningful changes to institutional culture and employee satisfaction.
HigherEdInclusion partners with institutions based on our shared belief in the transformative power of higher education. We are not a transactional organization seeking to monetize DEI or exploit institutional inequity for profit with one-off trainings or brief visits. We leverage scholarship, a national network of experts in the field, and work alongside our clients to achieve desired results. We are invested in the longterm outcomes of our work and charge reasonable fees for extraordinary services.
